Interview Planning: Tea Leaves Interview

The main nessicity in a docuemntry in the codes and conventions is to conduct interviews with serval different people, explaining and eplori ng their opinions, also could use interviews to be narratives when cut down.
Therefore we needed to plan each itnerview, who we will itnerview, the mise en scene involved, and each framing shot in the itnerviews.

Tea Leaves

For our interview about Tea leaves, we will need to obtain a microphone, tripod, video camera and a stills camera (takings pictures as evidence of our filming)
The lady we have contacted with is an old friend of a friend, who when we rang sound interested and willing to be interviewed in our documentary. After organising a date and time, we gave her a list of interview questions we were going to ask her so she is prepared in her answers; therefore we are not wasting any time.
The mise en scene for this interview will take place in her house. We have asked for it to be in front of a white wall with a table, where we can stick several of our images up as a background, creating a scheme and a general overview for our documentary. We are going to use a red table cloth and invest in many candles to create a similar setting from when we visited that fortune telling booth. Hopefully this mise en scene will create an eerie atmosphere and relate well to what we are discussing in the interview.
WE have asked her to dress in black, so it is a general outfit that can look quite professional, and it will also work well with our mise en scene. From this general everyday black costume it can also link to the
idea she is a home tea leave reader, therefore everyday outfit will look natural.
We then needed to plan an interview frame, planning questions we needto ask the intervwee in order to get aproparitae responses for our documentry.

Primary Research into fourtune telling booths and settings.

Here is an image we have taken inside the fourtune telling booth, There were many pictures similar to these realating to fourtune tellings around in the fourtune booth. Images similar to this may be considered when confirming the setting of our itnerview, and what we could do to make it relate to fourtune tellings.

We have used this image in our mise en scene for our tea leave interview.

Here is an establishing shot, of the fourtune booth and an idea of the theme of it. Alot of red and warm colours have been used (which is a colour that is popular when relating it to fourtune tellers). Also close up are small images of who has visted which can influence the public to get fourunes read, which links into the idea of the media being involved and making fourutne telling as popular with the public as it is.

This is one of the second fourue tellers we visted, here you can see another colour has been used but the sterotypical red colour is repeatdley used. Which from this primary research we can indicate the sterotypical colour, therfore could consider using this colour in our itnerview, combining it within the background. ie, red background or red table cloth.

Again here, there are alot of aversitsements outside the gypsy booth, which again can draw the public in suggesting how much the media have become involved with fourune tellings, ie celebrities.

Here is a small sign outside the first gypsy fourtune teller, which indicates what she can specialise in.Again you can see the colour red has been used.

Secondary Research into settings.
I looked around on the itnernet and gathered some images for our secondary research which gives us an idea of things to include in the setting of the mise en scene.

For this first iamge candels are involved, which makes the iamge more illuminating and creates a earee atmospehre to the iamge and the content of the iamge. In aiddtion we repeatley see the colour red involved when looking at gypsy fourutne tellers.

In the second image i found, focusing on the detail in the background the colour red is also invovled. I would like to maybe include a crystal ball into our itnerview, but it wouldnt relate to the topic of our interview in tea leaves. However i do think if we plan to do additonal itnerviews to maybe include the crystal ball.

This iamge is an image i found off the britney spears perfume adveert. Because it is involved in the media it is interesting to compare this to the primary research, and realisitc research we found. It is a good exmaple to show how much the media have become invovled that fourutne tellers are being advertise in un related things ie perfume.

However when i came across this iamge i wanted to focus on the candels, and i feel we should include candels into our mise en scene for definate, to create the steroptypical look. Also i feel it would create a realsditic atmospehre for our itnerview.

COSTUMES: (Secondary Research)

Gathering together a few images of gypsoy fourtune tellers we wanted to look at few possible costumes for our itnerviewee to wear. When looking at these iamges they wear alot of patterns, and bangles, rings and especially headscarfs. We did think it would be a good diea to recreat eon of these outfits, however after we visted the real gypsy fourtune teller in black pool she was just wearing black. From this we wanted to just have a blakc outfit, because it stands out from the setting and is very plain. We didnt want the costumes to look cheesy and fakke, and if we had a over the top costumes with bangles and scarfs, it could possibly look like we are trying to recreate an itnerview with a fourune teller in a booth, when really we are trying to show we interviewed a women  who belives she can read te aleaves from home, a raw fourtune teller.

For the MISE EN SCENE of our interview we gathered a few images together, of secondary iamges to include, sll theme around the supernatural, and most importantly focusing on fortune telling.
